Awhere wanted to launch a mobile career guidance app for students and young people, built around a playful, engaging experience.
But this audience has a particular demand: they grew up with the best mobile apps and form an opinion on an interface in seconds. A dated or generic design, and the app is uninstalled before it has even proven its value. For a subject as un-fun as career guidance, design is not just a wrapper: it is the product.
The stake for Awhere? Making design the number one argument — the thing that makes you want to open the app, progress in it and come back to it.
The real challenge was on the design side: how do you make a career guidance journey as addictive as a game app, without ever feeling gimmicky?
We had to design a gamified experience coherent from end to end, with readable progress, rewarding payoffs and an avatar you make your own — all with a level of finish worthy of consumer apps. Every screen, every animation, every micro-interaction had to drive engagement.
But behind that playful interface, account and data management had to be rigorous. The whole design challenge was to make security smooth and almost invisible, so that it never breaks the immersion.
1.Art direction and design system
From the start we set a clear art direction around a coherent design system: colours, typography, components, animations. A strong, consistent visual identity that gives the app an instantly recognisable look, screen after screen.
2.An entry journey polished down to the details
We designed the whole entry journey (sign-up, login, OTP verification, password reset, GDPR consent) as an experience in its own right. Even the "technical" steps (security, compliance) were designed to stay smooth and engaging rather than constraining.
3.A gamified, customisable profile space
We centred the experience on a fully gamified profile space: a gem system, progress, school level, customisable avatar and preferences. Visual, interactive elements that give young users a space that looks like them — and a reason to come back.
Weekly sync meetings
Every week, a checkpoint let us validate progress, adjust priorities and prepare the next sprints.
Figma prototyping
Before coding, every journey and screen was mocked up and prototyped interactively. Awhere could try the experience for real, feel the animations and transitions, adjust the UX and validate the art direction very early on.
Continuous test environments
As development progressed, we gave the client staging environments. As soon as a screen or interaction was ready, they could use it in real conditions and send us feedback so we could iterate fast on the result.
The client stays in full control at every step and watches their product take shape in real time: no tunnel, no bad surprise on delivery.
To deliver a mobile experience rich in animation and interaction, smooth and cross-platform, we picked several technologies:
- Front-end (mobile)Flutter (Dart ≥ 3.8), Provider, Dio, EN/FR multilingual
- Back officeNext.js 16, React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS 4
- Back-endNestJS 11, TypeScript
- DatabasePostgreSQL, Prisma 6
- ServicesScaleway Object Storage (files), Brevo (emails / OTP)
- HostingDocker on an Ubuntu VPS
- SecurityOTP verification, native GDPR consent
A complete product foundation: entry journey, profile and gamification, designed and delivered in a few weeks
